Darkened cities as a result of extensive damage to critical infrastructure. These are some of the consequences of the massive missile strikes Ukraine has experienced during the more than 1,000 days since Russia attacked the country.
But through a new project, Denmark is ready to support the rebuilding of critical infrastructure in Ukraine. The Ukrainian company DTEK and the Danish company Vestas has entered into an agreement on a project building 64 new windmills in Ukraine. The project has become a reality due to a Danish state guarantee of EUR 381 million, which has been provided through the Ukraine Fund administrated by the Danish Export and Investment Fund.
Minister for Industry, Business and Financial Affairs Morten Bødskov:
"We must stand shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine. Putin continues his assaults on the Ukrainians and his targeted attacks on critical infrastructure. We must ensure that Ukraine has a strong response, and with this agreement, we can now build that. Denmark's green position has the potential to deliver crucial contributions to Ukraine's fight for freedom. And with the new guarantee, we, together with EIFO and Vestas, are securing Ukraine’s critical infrastructure, which, in light of the war, is absolutely vital for the country. In other words, Ukraine's dark present can be replaced by a brighter, greener future."
Peder Lundquist, adm. direktør i EIFO:
"This is a fantastic opportunity for EIFO to support renewable energy in Ukraine, which strengthens the country's energy security and creates a greener future in the war-torn country, and we are proud to contribute to the country's largest wind project ever. EIFO has now financed over 15 Ukrainian projects with Danish businesses across critical sectors, including energy, water, and agriculture."
